In my finite math class last semester we learned about combinations (nCr) and permutations (nPr). order mattering or not. how many options can we get out of choosing 3 out of group of 10. This is one of my favorite things I learned to do this year.
if the order doesn't matter then it's:
nCr = 10C3 = 10! / (10-3)! 3!= 10! / 7! 3! = 10 * 9* 8* 7! / 7! 3*2*1 = 120
if the order does matter then it's:
nPr = 10P3 = 10! / (10-3)! = 10! / 7! = 10*9*8*7! / 7! = 720
This weekend was a little like doing math. We had a group of people... how many people were going to push the buttons of the other people in the group. I picked 3 in the equations I did before because that's about right. And our little group fluctuated somewhere from 5 to 30. Mostly couples so even numbers of people. Here and there, one or two that were not in couples... anyways our group was about 10-ish.
I was thinking that my little math equations kind of related to how many ways there could be to possibly get yourself riled up and upset. How many events / actions / words could come out of our little group. I just kept doing all this equations in my head all weekend. The more they happened the more the odds increased against me. Spinning off into a "crazy-drunken-already-losing-streak" that I thought would make me feel better...
Anyways, I drank too much humiliated myself. Got so angry with everything and freaked out like a baby without words. Yep. So yes by the end of the night I was one of the people I picked into my equation. The one that made it more difficult.
In math class we also learned to add and multiply the combinations and permutations together as well. In our case making the situations worse. Adding on top of what was already happening.
* AHHHHH SIGH *
Funny how math can finally apply to life.
